AUGUST NEWS

September 21st, 2008 by CHehner

I waited way too long to update the site, now I can’t remember much.  I do remember heckling everyone at the All Nighter with Brittney’s megaphone.  That was tons of fun!  Oh yeah…we played like 20 games of dodgeball too.  Derek LeRoy won the game of skate and a new RR deck.  Check out his pic to the right in Events.

SCC rider, Joe ? took Picture of the Month.  Check his “superwoman” out.  This guy has taken a couple of bad falls lately and practically cut his leg off.  Joe prefers tape over stitches.

I’m sure most of you have noticed the changes at the park by now.  We ended up moving existing ramps around instead of building new ones this month.  Most of the current layout is temporary.  The vertwall, big box in front of the vertwall, 7′ quarter, miniramp, new rhythm along the back wall, and the bowl corner are part of the new permanent layout.  We should have more of the new layout done by the BUCKNUTTY JAM on 10/18.  I hope I’m not sticking my foot in my mouth again, when I say the park will be done before Thanksgiving.  Keep your fingers crossed.

JULY NEWS

August 15th, 2008 by CHehner

MAN! July was HOT! I fried everyday mowing lawns. It was just a little warm inside the park too. I’m enjoying this August/May-like weather we’re having right now.

If you want to be the cool kid at school come get all of your gear from the coolest place in town - RAMP RIDERS! THE PROSHOP IS STOCKED WITH T-SHIRTS AND OTHER SWEET STUFF!

The guys over at House of Ink tattoo shop made some KICKASS one of kind custom decks.  I don’t know about you guys, but I’d be hanging those up on a wall. If I had money to blow, I’d have decks hanging all over my walls like paintings. If you’re ready for some ink or a piercing, go see Chris, Greg, and Jason. They’re great artists and cool guys. House of Ink is on Delmar above Blueberry Hill and Vintage Vinyl. Give them a call 314-721-2460.

Once again the Vans Warped Tour rolled into town. We rounded up a bunch of local skateboarders for Vans’ annual miniramp contest. Everyone was tearing the mini up! RR Team member Wil Towery came in sixth. I can’t remember the rest of the placings. I was checking out As I Lay Dying when the finals were going on. They were AWESOME! Checking out the ladies in bikinis; while handing out RR free session passes, is always a plus too.

I had tons of fun at the July All Nighter! I didn’t even ride. It was cool just hanging out with everyone. Red Bull dropped by with the party in a can and stocked everyone up. We had a game of S.K.A.T.E. and chilled the night away.

Scott and I finished the new vertwall last night, and boy is it SMOOTH! Now that the vertwall is done….it’s time…time to rearrange the park! Saturday 8/16 at Noon and Sunday 8/17 at 1:00 PM we will be cleaning the park up and moving ramps around. We should have a new rideable layout for most of the park by Monday. I can’t wait! The park will still be open the entire weekend. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

We’re going to have a RR BMX contest at the park on October 18. Pros will be battling it out for some moolah, and amateurs for some sweet product from our sponsors. I’ll post a flyer next week with more details.

MAY AND JUNE NEWS

July 15th, 2008 by CHehner

As promised, two months of news rolled into one.  I have trouble remembering what I ate two days ago, but here it goes.

The NEW Ramp Riders decks and griptape are in!  They are SWEEEEEEET!  Check them out on the Ramp Riders Gear page.  Ramp Riders grip tape is FREE with the purchase of any deck!

We have a NEW rhythm section done.  It runs along the back wall off of the roll-in, next to the double-down and hip-up section.  It feels a little tight at first, but once you get use to it, it’s FUUUUN!

Jeremy has moved on to bigger and better things and won’t be working at the park anymore, except for the occasional All Nighter.

We have a new employee / BMX team member, Justin “Lloyd “ Sexauer.  He’ll be taking over Jeremy’s Saturday night shift.  He’s a helpful guy and a good rider.  When you see him; ask him to tell you a joke, and give him a Farmtown highfive.  He’s also the Picture of the Month for June.

We have ANOTHER employee, General Jesse Lee Ramsey.  For those of you who don’t already know Jesse, he moved to St. Louis from Springfield, MO last year.  He’s a good rider, and a hell of a guy.  He’ll be giving square dance lessons on Saturday mornings.

If you’re going to buy something from the proshop that you need put on your bike or board, Saturday is definitely the day to do it.  Justin and Jesse are both certified BMX PLUS mechanics.

The RAD DVD party was fun.  It had been at least 15 years since I last saw it.  There were even a few people that hadn’t even seen it yet.  If you want to see REALLY old school BMX, rent that movie.

The May All Nighter was packed!I haven’t seen that many bikers for a while.  The Sobrosa Letum Street complete bike raffle winner was Jacob Ponseti.  It couldn’t have gone to anyone more deserving.  Jacob FREAKED OUT to say the least, when he found out he was the winner.  I forgot my camera, but asked this dude take a couple of funny pics of Jacob.  The dude never emailed them to me.  So imagine someone with shaggy red hair and freckles, sticking his finger in a light socket, while standing barefoot on hot coals; and that’s what he looked like.

At the June All Nighter all of the BMXers talked Jesse into setting up the rezy on the box jump coming out of the vertwall.  Everyone was going nutty.  We decided to play the game of B.I.KE. on the rezy instead of the rest of the park.  Quite a few new tricks were learned that night.  I didn’t get to see the game of S.K.A.T.E.  All of those jokers usually get pretty wild.  I gave out free session passes, drinks, and t-shirts for the top five in each game.

Well, I dumped one whole days worth of lawns about a month and a half ago, and it rained enough to keep me behind the entire time.  So, my one day a week to build down at the park, got absorbed by my lawn schedule trying to keep it on track.  It looks like the rainy season is finally over, and now I can get back to building with Scott.
